Discover the versatility and precision of Smooth-On's Mold Star Series, a range of platinum silicones designed to make mold-making a breeze. With a 1:1 volume mixing ratio, you can bid farewell to tedious weighing scales and focus on creating exceptional molds. The smooth, strong, and tear-resistant properties of Mold Star silicones ensure that your creations are nothing short of exceptional.
Mold Star 15 SLOW offers a 50-minute pot life and a 4-hour cure time at room temperature, making it perfect for applications that require precision and patience. For faster results, Mold Star 16 FAST comes into play, boasting a 6-minute pot life and a 30-minute cure time. Meanwhile, Mold Star 30 takes the cake with its impressive 30A Shore hardness, making it ideal for creating durable and long-lasting molds.
What sets Mold Star silicones apart is their ability to cure to soft, strong rubbers that exhibit negligible long-term shrinkage. This means that your molds will remain precise and accurate, even after multiple uses. Plus, with heat resistance up to 450°F (232°C), you can cast low-temperature melt metal alloys with confidence.
Before you begin, ensure a contamination-free environment by wearing safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Store the material at room temperature (73°F/23°C) and use it within a reasonable timeframe to achieve optimal results. Be sure to perform a small-scale test to ensure compatibility between the rubber and the surface, as certain contaminants can inhibit the cure.
When applying a release agent, Ease Release 200 is a proven option for seamless demolding. For added convenience, pre-mix Parts A and B separately, then mix thoroughly to achieve a uniform color with no streaks. Vacuum degassing can be used to eliminate entrapped air, but it's not necessary for most applications.
Pour the mixed rubber in a single spot at the lowest point of the containment field, allowing it to seek its own level and minimize entrapped air. For mold materials, the liquid rubber should level off at least 1/2” (1.3 cm) over the highest point of the model surface. After curing, demold your creation and marvel at the precision and accuracy achieved with Smooth-On's Mold Star Series.
Whether you're a seasoned pro or an aspiring mold-maker, Smooth-On's Mold Star Series is the perfect solution for your creative endeavors. With its ease of use, impressive properties, and versatility, this range of platinum silicones is sure to become your go-to choice for mold-making excellence.
