The Ultimate White Pigment

Titanium Dioxide (Titanium White) is a fine white powder that provides maximum whiteness and opacity when used in paints. Its high hiding power makes it an essential material for the paint industry, eclipsing other traditional white pigments. With its high refractive index, it bends and scatters light, giving paint a brilliant, clean tint.

Properties and Benefits

Our R2 grade rutile pigment is designed to provide maximum brightness and a neutral tone in white coatings. It is readily dispersed and meets all requirements of modern production methods, making it economical in use. Additionally, it produces low-haze, high-gloss coatings and is suitable for all outdoor oil, solvent, and water-borne paints and coatings.

History and Origin

Titanium Dioxide was first developed in the 20th century, simultaneously in Norway and the United States. The name 'Permanent White' has been applied to many pigments, including Titanium White. Today, Titanium Dioxide is the most important material used by the paint industry for whiteness and opacity.

Production and Refining

Titanium White is usually associated with iron, mainly as the mineral ilmenite. Deposits of titanium-bearing minerals are found in many places on the earth and are refined to produce Titanium White pigments. The production of Titanium White pigments involves a refinement process, which may be achieved by either the sulfate process or the chloride process.

Permanence and Compatibility

Both rutile and anatase forms of Titanium White are lightfast. However, exposure to light can cause a phototropic color change under certain circumstances. Rutile undergoes this reversible color change to a lesser extent than anatase. Titanium White pigments are chemically inert and do not react with airborne pollutants, organic solvents, or other pigments.
